5 Ways to Be Your Own Valentine!
It’s the day some people live for and other people dread…I think I’m somewhere in between. I love love and that’s why I have a soft place in my heart for Valentine’s Day. I love giving little gifts and seeing people’s eyes light up! And of course, if you’ve got that special someone in your life, then maybe you’ll go on a little date or write each other love notes too. It’s awesome. But, I’d like to add in another not so frequently discussed idea…..self-care. It’s super easy to forget about taking care of yourself and I don’t mean just getting a manicure now and again! We need to remind ourselves we need to recharge our souls. So, on Valentine’s Day this year let’s not forget to love ourselves; it sounds cheesy but without it we don’t have as much energy for everyone else!
Cut yourself some slack.
Would you be as hard on anyone else as you are yourself? Think about how many times in a day you scold yourself or say something less than kind to yourself. If you wouldn’t say it to your best friend, don’t say it to yourself. And if you DO catch yourself saying something rude to yourself by accident, don’t forget to apologize!
Give Yourself a Spa Day.
Even if you can’t make it to the spa, it’s easy to have one at home. Click on the recipes below that you can make with things you likely have in your pantry. Then don’t forget to take a bubble bath, light some candles and give yourself a manicure and pedicure! While you’re at it, check out Spa Radio on Pandora and enjoy some soothing spa music.
Make your Favorite Comfort Food.
Mine is brownies. Maybe yours is ice cream and grilled cheese. Whatever it is, make it then dig in and enjoy!
Do what you Love.
Take time away from the stressors of everyday life. Paint, read a book, watch a funny movie. Take a leisurely walk or just take a nap!
Disconnect from social media and your phone for the day or even just a few hours.
Remember, your time is valuable! Set boundaries to avoid becoming overwhelmed. When you’re constantly going and going it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Try stopping to think about your life, your goals, and your dreams and make sure your activities are in alignment with what makes you happy and feeds your soul.
Bonus: Book a Photo Shoot!
It might sound a little self-indulgent but there’s nothing like having amazing photos of yourself. It’s like the feeling you have when you know you look your absolute best and you’re walking with your head held high. It’s one of the most fun things you’ll ever do just for you! And, it will give you a massive dose of self confidence to boot.
“Be your own beautiful, darling, cherished and funny Valentine. You deserve it.”
